Friends of the Educational Opportunity Program

The Friends of the Educational Opportunity Program (FEOP) or “The Friends” was founded in 1971.

In 1970, the Office of Minority Affairs (OMA) was established and the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) began its quest to increase access to higher education for underrepresented students. Programs and services were created to assist students in the areas of advising/counseling and retention.

The purpose of the organization is to encourage participation and interest in the EOP at the University of Washington, to establish and maintain communication between the membership and the Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity (OMA&D), to educate the general public as to the scope of minority educational needs, to encourage financial contributions to the EOP, and to act in an advisory capacity to the Vice President and Vice Provost for Minority Affairs and Diversity.

2013-2014 Board of Trustees

Each Trustee is appointed, or elected for a three-year term. The Board meets monthly except July and August. Their signature fundraising event, usually held in May, is Celebration. Celebration raises funds for the FEOP endowment. The 2014 Celebration is scheduled for Thursday, May 22, at the Husky Union Building.
