UW Student, Faculty Surveys on Technology Use and Expectations

In late February, a sampling of UW students and, for the first time, faculty will receive a survey from the EDUCAUSE Center for Analysis and Research (ECAR) about their technology use at the UW, one of more than 250 participating universities. See an infographic of which technologies UW students use to support their academic success, based on results from the 2013 student survey, plus a benchmark report comparing technology use at UW with other institutions.

UW Data Visualization: Free Training Opportunities

Free workshops on Tableau software, UW’s new enterprise data visualization platform, are now available for UW faculty and staff. Tableau Desktop Fundamentals is a one-day hands-on workshop for those who have purchased a Tableau Desktop license. If you are considering purchasing Tableau Desktop or are curious about the ease of creating data visualizations, the two-hour Tableau Hands-on Introduction workshop is for you. In addition, you can learn how to navigate and interpret visualizations in a two-hour workshop using UW Profiles, the Web-based dashboard for exploring basic University data.

Tableau Data Visualization Software Now Available Through UWare

A powerful, easy-to-use data visualization tool, Tableau, is now available, with discounted licenses offered by UW-IT. With Tableau, you can easily create interactive graphics, reports and dashboards that allow you to ask questions and understand data in meaningful new ways. Tableau is available at no charge to faculty and full-time students through the Tableau for Teaching and Tableau for Students programs, and can be accessed on UWare. Analyze UW Data With New “UW Profiles” Dashboards

A dynamic new way to easily access, explore, and understand basic University data is now available. “UW Profiles” is a set of Web-based dashboards designed using Tableau data visualization software. It allows exploration and aggregation of UW data derived from the Enterprise Data Warehouse, UW’s single source of central administrative data. Browse the UW Profiles website and take an introductory video tour. To view and interact with the data, apply for access. UW Profiles is a collaboration of UW-IT and the Office of Planning & Budgeting.

New BI Portal for UW Enterprise Data Warehouse Reporting Needs

A new UW Business Intelligence (BI) portal connects anyone at the UW with central reports and analytics from the UW Enterprise Data Warehouse to use in their strategic planning and decision making. Developed by UW-IT, the BI portal provides quick access to consistent and reliable data reporting and analysis tools for subject areas including research, academic, HR, finance, advancement, and facilities. An easy-to-use tile interface presents customized information for you, lets you see what’s trending, provide feedback, and get report recommendations.
