Enterprise Architecture Initiative: Uniting Business and Technology Strategies for UW

A new University-wide Enterprise Architecture (EA) initiative kicked-off in January to address the challenges of merging new technologies into the UW’s complex and dynamic environment. EA provides the structure and processes to ensure technology solutions are well-designed, cost-efficient and scalable, and meet UW strategic needs. UW-IT’s new Director of Enterprise Architecture & Strategy, Jim Phelps, will work with UW’s business and IT stakeholders to align business strategies and technology projects with each other and UW strategic directions. UW Distinguished Teaching Award for Innovation With Technology: Nominations Due Dec. 2

Nominations are now open for the UW’s new “Distinguished Teaching Award for Innovation With Technology” to honor outstanding faculty or teams who enhance student engagement and learning by innovatively incorporating technology into their teaching. Current tenure-track faculty, lecturers, and instructors from any UW campus are eligible; faculty who have already received a Distinguished Teaching Award are not. “Life Beyond the Textbook” Ignite! Event at UW Seattle—Oct. 24

Learn about the state of digital texts at an Ignite! event on October 24, 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., in Odegaard Library, room 220. UW faculty and staff share how they have engaged students in new forms of reading, brought assignments to life, improved student outcomes, and built text and simulation systems from scratch. Ignite! sessions are fast-paced—presenters have exactly five minutes to share stories, ideas and strategies. The event begins with brief lessons learned from the recent UW-IT eTextbooks pilot. Learn more.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month Event: Anatomy of a Malware Attack—Oct. 28

A live demonstration showing how a malware attack works will be presented by Chester Wisniewski, Senior Security Advisor at Sophos, on Monday, October 28 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the UW Tower Auditorium. New UW Events Calendar Uses Trumba

The new UW Events Calendar is now live on all three UW campuses and provides easy sharing of events, including event registration. It offers an improved mobile experience and user interface, and many ways to display and feature events on your websites. The new calendar runs on Trumba software and is supported by the Technology Recharge Fee. To request a departmental calendar on this system, complete this brief WebQ.

HR/Payroll Modernization: Business Process Redesign Open House Sept. 12

To better understand the changes that a new HR and Payroll system will create, the UW community is invited to a Business Process Redesign Open House on September 12 from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in the UW Seattle HUB Lyceum room. Come learn how the effort to redesign HR and payroll business processes across the University will aid in selecting a new HR/P system, and hear about the future design of those processes, anticipated benefits, and potential impacts. The process redesign effort, part of the HR/Payroll Modernization (HR/P) initiative, is crucial for realizing major efficiencies across units.
